Tim Holtz's Umbrella Mans Grand Day Out! AND good News

Today, I ended up making something that's sort of 3D, I've never done anything quite like this before, so I'm really pleased with it - wobbly bits and all!  I love my creations to tell a wee tale and this one is 'Umbrella Mans Grand Day Out!' His brolly is very appropriate for a day out on this blustery and wet Bank Holiday.

Over at Sunday Stampers, it is Hels Sheridan's 200th  Challenge (Numbers) and though I have only been entering for a short while, I have been a great admirer of Hels' work in Craft Stamper for a long time, so I turned my Tim Holtz clock stamp into a Ferris Wheel with the 'struts' reading 200 as a tribute to her  Congratulations Hels xx

I  used my Rogue Redhead Designs, Almanac stamp to create the  background for the scene as it is also full of numbers.  I made 3 mini steps from the front part of the card and edged them with black Memento Ink so that Umbrella man could stand under his brolly and admire the view across the bay. We have a giant Ferris Wheel on the Seafront about a mile from where I live and we also have a Marina close by, so are often treated to views of little fleets of boats bobbing by - I've even seen a few old sailing ships.

I made 2  sets of  Tim Holtz 'pen nibs' and cut them out to represent railings (I have  lasting images in my head  of seeing so many tourist sites in London through railings when I was little, especially Buckingham Palace) The nautical picture came from a very old French book that I tear up when I need text  to add to my projects... I got it at a car boot sale, it was torn and coverless, so I don't mind repurposing it!

 Last night I got such a thrill. Tim Holtz, Happy Birthday Tim!

   I wish I'd had longer to make something more elaborate for Tim Holtz's birthday  on January 7th - and seeing the fabulous creations appearing on http://studiol3.blogspot.com/  I'm a bit shy about posting this with them. I started with a piece of Coredinations Whitewash card, distressed, 'kiss' and 'ghost' stamped it (as I'd learnt during the 12 Tags of Christmas) embossing several times along the way. I used a T!m stamp for the 3 gentlemen and had a bit of fun giving them party hats... naturally T!m, being the birthday boy, got a  crown. which I embossed in copper. I cut them out (probably unwisely as I left my specs at work today) and die cut 3 Quickutz balloons and added his name.  I hand wrote the sentiment 'King for a day' with an embossing pen. It's prettier and more textured than in the photo, my camera is very simple and the light just bounced back in the piccy

Hi, welcome to my new little 'nest' on the web, an English crafter invites you to come on in and tarry a while! why not take a look at my other stuff - even better if you would like to 'join me as a follower' My little blog is only 6 days old and I have had such a thrill that so many of you have visited my site from far flung corners of the world.  I would like to come see your blogs too.


I didn't expect this... my space was just set up  to keep a record of my stuff for my daughter to see -and maybe, if I get brave, so I would have a blog address to go in for challenges.

Inspired by the wonderful Reindeer tag Tim Holtz produced, as well as the amazing collection that is being amassed on his website, I have made one in a style that is  so different for me.

When I was hunting through my stash to find supplies, I found lots of little blingy bits and pieces that have sat around in my craft stash  for years. I used one and waddya know, before I could even say '12 Tags of Christmas', I'd used the lot!

As my funds for crafting are mostly pretty non existent (College Lecturer, single parent, mortgage) I was pleased that I was using stuff up ...I hardly buy craft stash these days, I save for the basics, Distress inks and Tim Holtz clings etc, Tims comments on using what you've got already this project has REALLY hit a note with me.  Stamping and paper crafting are such a fashion industry that it is so hard not to be seduced by the latest items and feel that your old stuff is - well - old! I've looked at my stash with a new pair of eyes tonight! things I had bought 3 or 4 years ago look bright and fresh again and I remember why I liked them in the first place.
